as i'm sure you have already seen/heard/read how different states in the USA are trying to control people who can have babies (women/non-binary/transgender) by having their constitutional right of having an abortion taken away. this is a bunch of crap.
ABORTION IS HEALTHCARE.
it doesn't matter why you are getting the abortion. it doesn't matter if you are getting your 5th abortion or your 1st. abortion is healthcare and no one can tell you how to take care of your body. you can think of abortion however you want, but don't you dare tell me or anyone else how we should take care of our body.
this is completely about control and not about 'life'. if it was about taking care of life then what about undocumented immigrants, people killed in interactions with the police, school children that are shot, addicts who overdose, death row inmates, people who need health insurance - all of these people have lives also. but the same people who cry 'it's about stopping murder, and life is so special', don't care about those people. all they care about is controlling the people who can have children.
how this is about control, sadly there are many examples of this. 1)by making abortion a federal crime, any person who has an abortion and/or the doctor who preforms the abortion get convicted of the crime, when they are out of jail, they will not be able to vote. 2)when the law is written that the people who rapes me goes to jail shorter then the doctor who does the abortion. 3)by having the laws written that not only is it against the law for me to have an abortion, it's also against the law to have birth control. 4)when the law is written that there aren't any exceptions even for the life of the person who is pregnant. so if i'm pregnant and i'm dying (for whatever reason: cancer, pregnancy its self), i cannot have an abortion. these are just a small sample of the laws that have been passed by different states in the USA.
my feeling for all of this is just rage. who do these people think they are to tell me and other people how they can take care of their body. its my body not theirs. so in my rage i found an image and just knew i had to embroider it. it expresses everything i think about these laws that are getting passed. stop telling me what to do with my body. i won't tell you what to do with your body.

Mayweather didn't get my money
so on saturday was the big mayweather vs pacquiao fight (which i did not watch. i went and saw the new avengers movie [it was great. love me some avengers and captain america]). i was reading my twitter account on sunday and the great sarah spain did a movement that instead of spending the $100 for the pay-per-view to see the boxing fight, spend the $100 on donating to domestic violence charities. this is because mayweather has multiple offenses of domestic violence against women - here's a story about it on deadspin. so sarah spain started a campaign on twitter suggesting to everyone that instead of spending the money to watch the big fight, that people should spend that money on domestic violence charities. and people responded in kind. some people spent the $100 and some just spent what they could. either way a message was put out there. people will not support a sports figure if they do things that are horrible to other human beings. and it was a good message to send. here's a story that SI wrote about sarah spain's campaign. sadly i didn't have the money to donate. i'm currently very strapped for cash (see comic convention). but i retweeted it and sent the message out. even if it was a day late, it's still a good message to send out. so i didn't mind sending the tweet out a day late.

go and vote!
to many people today voting seems so normal, lame, not something to even think about; kind of thing. the generation that died to give us the right to vote, is long and dead. i doubt we can even make out the writing on their tomb stones. but fight and die they did. and it wasn't for nothing, it was to give us many rights that we now take for granted. it gives us many rights the people in other countries are just NOW getting. so today i'm going to do what my fellow countrymen - many years ahead of me - died for. i'm going to go out and vote today. and you should do. i don't care who you vote for (well i do, but i'm not going to tell you your wrong, or how horrible of a person you are for not voting how i think you should) but vote you should. it's a right that had to be fought for and died for. go and vote!

vagina
so in the michigan house of representatives state rep. lisa brown and rep. barb byrum caused an uproar when they said the word vagina and vasectomy. the legislature is considering legislation that would ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, unless a pregnant woman’s life is in danger. representative brown stated in her speech to the house “Finally, Mr. Speaker, I’m flattered that you’re all so interested in my vagina, but ‘no’ means ‘no’.”. state rep. barb byrum was silenced after she tried to introduce an amendment requiring men to prove that their life is in danger before being allowed to receive a vasectomy. after they had both said this, house speaker james bolger declared in a statement that brown and byrum could not enter the house and speak on a school employees retirement bill. bolger added that they “will not be recognized to speak on the house floor today after being gaveled down for their comments and actions yesterday that failed to maintain the decorum of the house of representatives.” at a press conference where she could speak, rep. brown declared: “"They banned me from speaking because I dared say vagina, the correct, medical name of a part of a woman's anatomy these lawmakers are trying to regulate. I am outraged that this legislative body not only wants to dictate what women do, but what we can say.” as a reaction to what had happened to them, rep brown got tony award winner eve ensler (the creator of the vagina monologues) and other state reps to do a performance of the vagina monologues on the michigan capital steps in protest.
HOLY CRAP! talk about the power of words. the legislation can regulate a woman's body but they won't let people talk about the body part they are regulating. i'm so glad rep brown did the performance of the vagina monologues on the steps of the capital. that is an amazing protest to what they are telling her she cannot say in the house. and i think it is even more amazing that the creator of the vagina monologues, eve ensler, showed to be part of the performance - let alone other politicians.

obama for planned parenthood
normally i hate having two posts in one day, but i just have to share this. i got an email from the planned parenthood action fund and they shared this video. i had never heard of it and i'm really surprised it hasn't gotten more mention on the news. but i wanted to make sure i shared it with everyone here. for those of you who don't know, i'm a huge believe in the right to choose. and that the woman and her doctor know what is best for her healthcare and not some politician. and i think planned parenthood and other organizations like it are a great help to women who can't afford healthcare - whether it's to get a mammogram, pap smear or birth control. and yes some of them give abortions. not all do, but even the one's that do; they are helping women not destroying them. so here's a video of obama coming out and supporting planned parenthood.

new abortion laws
i was reading a new york times article and they were pointing out different abortion laws in the states. and i just wanted to point out some of the new crazy laws. for those of you who don't know, i'm very pro choice. i'm not for abortions, but i'm for the choice of what to do to my own body. it's my choice not anyone elses.
In Alabama, they would require women to the ultrasound before they have an abortion and to have the screen face the woman while the doctor narrates the images, although the law states that it should not be “construed to prevent a pregnant woman from averting her eyes,” the bill reads. in alabama, doctors who do not follow the prescribed routines could face felony charges and could be sued by the potential father and grandparents. Dr. Pippa Abston, a pediatrician in Huntsville, objected to what she said were unnecessary roadblocks to a legal procedure. “As a physician I don’t like the idea that they are going to micromanage my medical practice,” she said. - i can't believe that they can make it so that the potential father/grandparents can sue the dr. that's just outrageous! who are they to say what should happen between the woman and that dr. and i would like to know how legislators know what's best for what the dr should talk about with their patient.

In Mississippi, a bill working its way through committee requires an ultrasound that provides an image of high quality, which cannot be achieved with abdominal procedures in the initial months of pregnancy. which means, a vaginal probe ultrasound would be required. The woman must be offered a chance to see the image and hear the fetal heartbeat. She cannot avoid hearing a description of the sonogram unless, among other things, she is a victim of sexual assault or incest or the fetus is medically compromised. - again i can't believe how they are going to regulate what the dr should say to the woman. and a vaginal probe ultrasound, is not a fun thing and should not be required. a normal abdominal ultrasound should be enough to get the information that the dr needs. and really, the dr should be the judge of what ultrasound he/she needs to have; NOT legistlation.
Labeled the Women’s Right to Know Act in pennsylvania, the bill is opposed by the Pennsylvania Medical Society and other medical groups. But it has been approved by a House committee and its sponsors hope for passage this year. - i find this interesting that the dr community is against the bill but the House committee has approved it. again who are they to say what should happen in the dr's office. i think the dr should be the one to worry about that.
