my recent cooking adventures

so these last couple of weeks i've had the chance to cook a little bit. and lets just say cooking and me do not go together. hehe. both times i cooked i set the fire alarm off in the house. hehe. so needless to say i need to cook more so i don't set off the alarm. hehe.

the first adventure isn't me fully cooking. a woman at work makes these amazing rolls and for some money she'll put them all together and all i need to do is fry them in oil. well that's what i did. and by doing that i set their alarm off. hehe. but the food turned out really good in the end. these rolls are super tasty. i love them! so every time i get to see her at work, i ask her to make them so i can cook them and then stuff my face with them. hehe. here are the rolls finished.

the next cooking adventure i had was baking a blue berry cobbler. my mom asked me to make it for her for her birthday. first let me say that cobbler is a diabetic coma just waiting to happen. hehe. almost two whole cups of sugar and a whole stick of butter. but in the end it tasted really good. of course while it was sitting in the oven, the cobbler went over the sides of the pan and burned at the bottom of the oven. and that of course set off the fire alarm in the house. hehe. it didn't look the best when it was done cooking, but it tasted great!

this first picture is after i put the last of the sugar on the top of the cobbler before i put it in the oven.

this picture is when i realized it was going over the sides and burning at the bottom of the oven.

this is the finished look. again, doesn't look the best, but it tasted great!

the last cooking adventure isn't fully a cooking adventure, but it's close. i had gone out for a girls weekend out with some friends and a friend of mine told me to combine vanilla cake icing and teddy grahams. and if i do that, it will taste like dunk-a-roos. remember those? on man those were the best. so i got the products and man, she was right! taste just like dunk-a-roos. hey at least with this one, i didn't set off the fire alarm. hehe.

here's what you need to get for the dunk-a-roos!

Happy pi(e) day

Today is pi(e) day and this is celebrated every year on March 14th (3.14) by eating, you guessed it, PIES! and if you don't know what Pi is let's explain: 'Pi is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.'

not gonna lie, i had to look that up. i knew pi equals 3.14, but what you use pi for in math, did not know the answer to that. but that's ok. there's nothing wrong with not knowing something and learning something new. :)

mainly for today i just wanted to say happy pi(e) day! and go eat a pie!!!!! pizza pie, cheery pie, apple pie... EAT A PIE! and maybe learn a little math.

Chicken/mushroom crock pot meal

So I made another chicken crock pot meal. This time it's chicken with mushrooms. The gravy is: one thing of cream of mushroom soup, 1/2 cup white wine, 8oz container sour cream, 1cup of mushrooms. Put the chicken and the gravy in the crock pot for 8 hrs and presto. Serve over some rice (as shown in picture).

Fun dip

So I got this recipe from a woman I work with. Its super crazy easy. Its just cream cheese spread on a platter and then jelly on top. To eat it use original wheat thins. It's as simple as that! But I think it's very tasty. The picture I have for it isn't the best, but here it is.

Tilapia with rice cooking adventure

The other day I made myself some lunch of fish with a side of rice. The fish was just plain tilapia with lemon pepper seasoning. The rice was instant rice (I don't cook rice. Hehe) but it had cheese and broccoli in it. Over all very tasty and pretty easy to make. Here's a photo of the finished product.

Frito lay tacos

Another exciting adventure in cooking for me tonight. I made Frito lay tacos. So I put some frito's on the bottom of a bowl then put cooked ground beef on top. On top of that shredded cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream. The first time I ever had it I was at a relay-for-life. All the taco stuff was in a personal bag of frito's. It was really good. So I bought everything to make it myself. Very tasty. My picture isn't very pretty. I like a lot of sour cream. Here's a picture of all my fixings and a picture of the finished product.

Coke, BBQ chicken

So for dinner yesterday I made BBQ-coke- chicken. It was pretty good. I hadn't cooked in a long time so it was nice to cook. What this meal was, boneless, skinless chicken cooked in the slow cooker for 3 hrs. Then I drained all the juices and put 1/2 a can of coke and some BBQ sauce in the pot. Slow cooked all of that for 30 minutes. I ate the chicken with some more BBQ sauce on it. It was tasty. And my side dishes were peaches and pears. Overall a good meal. The first picture is of the chicken in the pot with the coke and BBQ sauce. The second picture is the finished product.

the move

so as some of you might know, i've recently moved out of the city. i'm not city girl any more. but i will get to say that i lived in chicago and that was cool. i'm back in the burbs and rocking it as always. my room is a mess but i'm slowly putting everything where i want it. i will miss living with my old roommate ashley, but it was time to move on.

i'm excited about my new place for a couple of reasons:
  1. i have a bigger room, so that is always nice.
  2. i now have a desk, which before i was using a tv tray as my desk. i posted the pictures of my new desk (the one with all the comic book characters). so i'm also excited about my desk just looking totally awesome! hehe.
  3. i have a small cabinet dedicated to all of my crafting stuff/hobbies. for i have multiple crafts/ hobbies: i cross stitch, scrapbook, make random things, write, do photography. so i have all of those supplies in this cabinet. i'm very excited about that for before i just had everything scattered in different boxes and bags.
  4. i have to say i'm happy that i can now have glutton in my apartment. my last roommate was a celiac and that means she is allergic to wheat/barley/rye (all have glutton). so when i moved in with her i agreed that there would be no glutton in the apartment. and i was fine with that. but i have to say i'm glad that i don't have to worry about that any more. i don't know how people deal with that allergy all their lives. power to those people. so i went grocery shopping for the first time for the new place today and i was excited to be able to buy 'normal' food; ie: bread, ceral, pop tarts.
  5. there's a ledge that runs all the way around my room and i've been able to put most of my nick-nacks and picture frames on it. so that's been nice. before i just put all of those things on my book shelves.
  6. there's a living room. my last place we didn't have a living room. how we set up the apartment was that ashley's room was the living room and then i had the actual bedroom as my bedroom. we used the kitchen/dinning area as the living room. so in my new place there is a living room and i'm very excited about it. i got a couch from my cousin to put in there and i'm excited to just sit in there and read my books.
so those are just a few reason's i'm happy about the move i have made. don't get me wrong, i loved living with ashley and living in the city. but i work in the burbs and most of my friends/family are in the burbs. so it is all around better in the end. i will definitely miss living with ashley and all the fun we had together. she is a great friend. we lived together for 2 years. so it is the end of an era. but it is now the beginning of a new one.
