ambulance rides

so a person i know had to ride the ambulance twice to a hospital. the first time they road the ambulance for 2 blocks. the second time the ride was from the city to the subarbs - about a 40 minute drive. the first ride's bill is $880. the second ride's bill is $950. tell me how those rides are almost equal to each other in cost?! i see where the ride to the suburbs (the second ride) is expensive - well kinda. it was a longer ride and it costs to have an ambulance make that drive. but the first ride that only went 2 blocks, that's just nuts! i don't care if i'm paying for the equipment that is in the truck/van. that's just crazy!
